When I first began pondering possible topics for a "Passion Blog" one topic came to my mind almost immediately. I was able to develop this topic within a day and already had a very strong idea about exactly what I wanted to do. However, coming up with a second possible idea proved very challenging. It wasn't until an hour ago, while on a run through the Penn State college campus (when all of my best thinking is done), that I came up with an idea that I am perhaps even more excited about than the original.
My first idea revolves around my love for music. Music is as integrated in my life as is food or water. I have played the viola in orchestras since the fifth grade: in school, in the pit for a variety of musicals, in ensembles for churches for paid gigs, and in many other ways. In addition to playing music, I love listening to music as well. I love to listen to almost every single genre of music. I feel like people, for the most part, tend to stay grounded in their own musical preferences, without really exploring all that music has to offer. It is this idea that drives me to write a blog each week on what is happening today in music for a wide variety of genres such as pop, alternative, rap, classical, experimental, country, rock, heavy metal, musical soundtracks, video game soundtracks, and many more. I hope that people who read my blog will find at least one new genre of music they love, but had never thought to listen to before.
My newer idea was inspired by my experiences as a vegetarian. I had experimented with being a vegetarian for all of my sophomore and junior years in high school. Eventually I gave in to the savory sensations that are meat, but still think very fondly of the two years I spent without them. In my blog I would either share my experiences as a vegetarian, or perhaps I would go vegan for just this semester at Penn State, and share my experiences as they happen. Although this would obviously be a much greater commitment than my first idea, I believe it would prove to be much more fun and engaging.
Documenting a personal journey from the beginning is always interesting. I've always wondered what it was like for vegetarians/ vegans, and whether the transition was hard. I agree that it would be more engaging and it will probably be fun to write about.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your second idea. To both hear about your experience as a vegetarian and possible try at being a vegan would be so interesting. To hear about the foods you try and the love and hate for some would be very interesting.
ReplyDeleteAs Morton wrote, I want to hear from you more about "Life as a vegetarian" than anything else. I can see how you love music, but I have never seen person who writes about his or her vegetarian life. It would be interesting. I am not a vegetarian so I do not know whether it is struggling or fun. I want to know Your Vegetarian life.
ReplyDeleteOooh, it seems like such a difficult decision. I see where you are coming from with the music BG (I started playing violin in the 5th grade too, then switched to viola in HS) so, I understand how important it is and how big the role is in your life. Maybe my background causes me to favor the music idea but music is a great way to express yourself and help people connect. Introducing people to new music is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteAiden, you present two great topics here! Both are specific and thoughtful, and both have the potential to engage your readers. With the music approach, you'd have the opportunity to broaden our horizons with new artists and genres. The use of links/videos might help us to become even more engaged. With the vegetarian approach, you could let us experience your journey (without having to give up meat ourselves!)
ReplyDeleteTough decision, but I don't think you'll go wrong. Good luck!
I think you have an amazing way of looking at everything. For the music topic I feel like you have a lot that you would be able to teach us with you being the "expert" on said topic. However, if you wanted to learn and grow with the reader then you should use the topic of your vegan trip. I wish you the best of luck.
